**Afro Tech** (also Afro-tech) is a subgenre of **Afro House** that **originated and is predominantly made in South Africa**, emerging in the **2010s**. Sonically it is a **fusion of Afro House and techno** — harder, more percussive and less melodic than mainline Afro House — built on **African percussion (djembe, congas)** with vocals **predominantly in Xhosa and Zulu**.

Early defining work includes **Caiiro's "Cries of the Motherland" (2016)**, with **Enoo Napa** and **Themba** among the sound's early practitioners. While South African in origin, its commercial infrastructure has grown to include international labels (e.g. Italy's **MoBlack Records**) and European producers — so it is most precisely described as **predominantly, not exclusively, South African**.
