The Music Box (Chicago)

The Music Box was the Chicago club most associated with Ron Hardy, whose intense, fearless, sometimes chaotic sets contrasted with Frankie Knuckles' smoother approach. Hardy championed unreleased local tracks and reportedly played records at extreme volumes and speeds, helping push house toward harder, more hypnotic territory. The Music Box was a proving ground for the first generation of Chicago house producers.
